DEAR EDITOR
A local government election is crucial to Guyana’s progressive democracy, Guyana’s wellbeing, even for the reputation of the present government and the opposition parties.
This country for too long has been caught in the ideological, political game-playing of those who will risk little or nothing of their political interest for the overall benefit of the country.
There are young people across this country with enormous potential to be Guyana’s greatest of leaders, but sadly their right to make a tangible contribution to the political, social, and economic welfare of this country is being bugged down by well calculated political strategies that are aimed at preserving more one’s ideological position than forwarding the great cause of this country.
The blame game obscured by secret political maneuverings is being felt like daggers in the hearts of those who yearn to bring more sane leadership to this country.
It will be a sad day if it comes to the place where we hear that local government election will no more be, or with a sanctified lie that it cannot happen any time soon – that is in the next decade or so. That is when most of the ideological demagogues would have resigned, retired, been fired, or “die out” and the nation continues to be an illusion for those with their aspirations.
