The services by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) have been further boosted with a donation of 50 cellular phones by the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) yesterday at the Police Commissioner’s Office, Eve Leary.
The donation is part of GT&T’s sponsorship of the Force’s Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police 24th Annual General Meeting and Conference which will be held from Monday at the Pegasus Hotel.
Director of Sales and Marketing of GT&T, Wystan Robertson, said that over the years, the telephone company has been a partner to the Police Force, as is evident by a number of initiatives implemented and numerous donations.
Robertson said that GT&T would match the sum of money credited to each phone. GT&T has also loaned the force a public address system to facilitate the successful hosting of the conference at the Pegasus hotel. Robertson also pointed out that GT&T has been involved in an aggressive campaign to assist the police in urging persons to obey the laws, by not driving and using a cell phone.
This campaign by GT&T is encouraging persons to use a bluetooth headset while driving.
Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene, expressed his appreciation to the company for the donation.
He lauded GT&T for being a useful organisation to the police force.
He added that the telephone company has always been helpful and cooperative in enhancing law enforcement and supporting the efforts made by police officers.
As it relates to the conference, Commissioner Greene noted that 60 delegates from various countries will be present while there will also be security exhibitors.
