Residents of Linden desirous of becoming football referees will be given the opportunity to take the first step in that direction following the inauguration of a two-day Beginners Referees Course at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, today and tomorrow starting at 09:00hrs each day.
President of the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA), Mr. Bryan Joseph will deliver the opening remarks moments before GFF Referee Instructor and Assessor, Lawrence Griffith begins lecturing to participants.
Among some of the topics to be covered are the 17 laws of the game, match preparation techniques, the benefits of team work, media relations and the role of the 4th official.
The programme culminates tomorrow with a fitness run involving all participants. Persons desirous of participating are asked to contact the executives of the Upper Demerara Football Association or Lawrence Griffith on Tel # 621 6986 or 681 1187. Registration forms may also be uplifted from any of the FIFA referees in Linden.
