– aims at lowering personal best times
Guyana’s foremost distance athlete, Cleveland Forde leaves Guyana today to compete in the Manny Ramjohn Memorial Track and Field meet in Trinidad and Tobago as part of his preparation for the upcoming Caribbean Games.
Forde told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that he is fully prepared for the meet and his primary focus is to better his times at the event. “I am just as normal; I am fully ready and fit to compete; I am looking to better my times,” Forde said. His personal best time in the 1500m is 3:46.51 and 14:07 in the 5000m. Forde indicated that he is not sure whether he will compete in the 1500m or 5000m tomorrow because he has no knowledge of the meet programme.
“The organisers are not sure if they will let both run off. It depends on how the races are situated then I will know which one I will run. What I know is that I am fully prepared for both events,” a confident Forde beamed yesterday.
Guyana’s most successful IAAF South American 10k athlete and national record holder comfortably won the 5000m at the Athletics Association of Guyana National Senior Trials two weeks ago. He looked in good shape.
The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) has fully sponsored Forde’s ticket for this meet in Trinidad and Tobago.
