After undergoing successful surgery yesterday at a Long Island, New York, medical facility, Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), Robert Corbin, is said to be doing well.
According to a release issued by the party last evening, Corbin was undergoing post-operative care and his doctors have expressed optimism for his full recovery.
The release added that it is expected that he will be discharged from hospital shortly and that the party will continue to give further updates on the progress of his recovery.
At a press conference yesterday morning, General Secretary Oscar Clarke, although unable to shed light on Corbin’s diagnosis dispelled reports that the operation was heart-related.
According to Clarke, Corbin was discharged from the Heart Centre at which he was initially admitted but was readmitted to a hospital that does not deal with the heart.
He speculated that the facility where Corbin underwent surgery deals with medical issues related to radiology.
On Saturday April 25, Corbin was admitted to the Woodlands Hospital after feeling unwell which was characterised by pains in his chest. The following day he was transferred to the Caribbean Heart Institute but was medivacced to the United States on Monday April 27.
Corbin was initially hospitalised at the Heart Centre, St. Francis Hospital, Long Island, where he underwent tests, evaluation and medical procedures, including angiography. Following his discharge, Mr. Corbin was subjected to a series of other medical tests and evaluation as a result of which, he underwent surgery yesterday.
According to PNCR Vice Chairman Basil Williams, the PNCR and Mrs. Corbin have acknowledged with appreciation the many expressions of concern and good wishes for a speedy recovery from friends, supporters and well-wishers.
“These messages have been conveyed to Mr. Corbin who has asked us to express his personal appreciation to all those persons and organisations,” Williams said.
He added that Corbin plans to resume duties in the shortest possible time.
