The quiet community of Silvertown, Linden, was yesterday plunged into shock after the gruesome news of an apparent suicide spread like wildfire.
Rondel Carryl, a 31-year-old resident of 134 Second Street, Silvertown, was reportedly found hanging from the roof of her apartment by her paramour, Junior Wilson, aka Yellow Man.
One of Carryl’s next door neighbours said that she had spoken with the young woman on Tuesday afternoon, and that she seemed upset. “I fed up; I can’t tek it no more. Is either yo hear I kill he (Yellow Man), or he kill me,” and I tell her, “Girl, put some things in a bag and disappear,” but she said, ‘He gon find me; he gon still find me’”.
The woman said that Carryl later put on the very clothes that she was found hanging in, and said that she was going for a walk; but she did not see her leave, neither did she see her return.
“But her phone rang out quite a lot last night, so I say maybe she wasn’t there and when I called out for her this morning I ain’t get no answer”, the woman added.
Carryl’s mother, Margaret Sealey, said she could not believe her daughter was dead, as she had only spoken with her several hours earlier.
According to Sealey, her daughter, who operated a clothing stall in the Mackenzie Market, called her about 6 am yesterday, and told her, she couldn’t make it to the stall, and asked her whether she could open the stall for her; that she was not feeling too well. Sealey said she told her daughter, she couldn’t as she herself wasn’t feeling well.
“Then she called again at eight, and said ‘Mommy what you doing?’ I said nothing, and she said, ‘take care of yourself.’” I started to feel funny, and I wanted to call her back, but I couldn’t as I didn’t have minutes on my phone”, Margaret Sealey reported sadly.
Sealey said that she later received another call, this time from her sister, Simone, stating that something had happened to Rondel.
Relatives said that Rondel Carryl’s relationship with her paramour was a stormy one. He was described as a womanizer, and it was also alleged that he would often physically abuse her, when she objected to his “carrying on”.
Her mother said that she often spoke to her daughter, and advised her to get out of the relationship, but her words fell on deaf ears.
Junior Wilson is assisting police with investigations.
