Former Guyana under-19 left-handed opener Robin Bacchus scored a scintillating century, while countrymen Keith Semple and Vishal Bharat also contributed as defending champions Cavaliers crushed Grenada’s Spice Boys by 154 runs in Quarter-final action in the Digicel 20/20 tournament in the British Virgin Islands.
Cavaliers piled up a record breaking 319 from their 20 overs, to bury Grenada’s Spice Boys’ hopes of a semi-finals berth, as they could only muster 165 in their reply.
The 20-year-old Robin Bacchus, who last represented Guyana in St Kitts in 2007 led the onslaught with 123 including 16 fours and 8 sixes. Bacchus and former Guyana first-Class player Semple, who smashed 52 with 3 fours and 3 sixes, put together 165 from the first 12 overs, before Vishal Bharat, who represented Bermine in Berbice first division competitions, smashed 6 sixes in his cameo 42. Grenada skipper Jason Thomas took three wickets.
The crowd was briefly entertained by another cameo of an innings from Raymond Charles who scored 54 with 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Robert Johnson struck 5 sixes before falling to Semple for 36.
The 38-year-old Semple, who played seven ODIs for the West Indies, finished with 3-31 while Vijjay Jhappan took 2-20 in the emphatic win.
