Forty-two-year old Marc Dannette, of Russell Street, Charlestown, was yesterday denied pretrial liberty when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
On January 15, he allegedly broke and entered the night club of Irene Gooding and stole three amplifiers and other items totaling $1M. He pleaded not guilty.
According to his attorney, at the time of the incident his client was at the Salvation Army teaching about the “ills” of drug abuse.
The lawyer further stated that being at the Salvation Army would make it very impossible for Dannette to be at Gooding’s night club.
However Police Prosecutor Seetaram objected to bail, stating that there is a likelihood of the defendant continuing this trend. Seetaram told the court that there is also the likelihood of the defendant fleeing the jurisdiction, noting that nothing was recovered.
Gooding, who was present in court, stated that Dannette was positively identified as the person who broke into her night club.
She said that she and Dannette were friends and that she could not believe that he would have done something like that.
The accused is expected to make his next court appearance on May 15.
