Physical fitness trainer and sports organiser, Eli Hazel, will stage a 15-mile run in recognition of all mothers.
The activity, which will take place on Sunday – Mothers’ Day – commences in front of the Port Mourant Hospital, Corentyne Berbice from 5:00am and concludes at lot 40 Stanleytown in New Amsterdam.
Hazel, who hails from Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, is an employee of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company and a former policeman. He is also the founder and coordinator of the Unity of The Nation Organisation in Berbice.
The physical fitness instructor who has been organising walks and fitness activities in recognition of Good Manners, World Health Day, Fathers’ Day and Mothers’ Day among other significant observances, told the media that he decided to undertake this venture because he feels that not enough emphasis is being placed on mothers.
He stressed that mothers are very special people in the world and play an important role in everyday activity. He also said that he aims to bring attention to the amount of domestic violence taking place in society today, of which many mothers are receiving the brunt of the attacks.
He is hoping that after this run more persons and organisations will come to the fore and help to do more for mothers.
Hazel is one of a handful of persons in Guyana who holds a Certificate from the British Sports Trust Harvard Community Sports Leaders Course.
He received it in 2005. Hazel graduated at the top of the class in the course which was held by the British High Commission and the Sapodilla Learning Centre in Hopetown (Bel Air) West Berbice and dealt with Sports Management, Marketing, Organising, Coaching and Discipline in Sports.
Hazel stated that what he is doing is all part of what was learnt during the course, which was tutored by United Kingdom-trained sports instructor Edwin Joseph.
