The St. Ann’s Orphanage yesterday was presented with a refrigerator from the Order of John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta, United Kingdom.
Mayor of Georgetown, Hamilton Green, presented the item on behalf of the organisation, during a simple ceremony at the Thomas Street Orphanage.
Upon presenting the item to Sister Beatrice Fernandes, Mayor Green said that it is a pleasure to assist an organisation such as the orphanage since the persons there are doing an excellent job. The Mayor noted that others in society should take time out to recognise the work, which the staff at the orphanage does.
It was further noted by the Mayor that this donation is just one of many to come.
On receiving the item, Sister Fernandes expressed her gratitude for the donation.
The St. Ann’s Orphanage is one of the Catholic homes that cater for young girls in need of solace care.
The home currently houses some 50 children.
