Defeat Blue Berry Hill 2-1 in final, Bakewell Topp XX take 3rd
Milerock won the Linden Town Week senior knock-out football championship following a 2-1 win over Blueberry Hill United on Friday night in the final at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, Linden.
Weeks after being crowned Upper Demerara Football Association champions, Milerock sailed into the lead from a cross, which Kevin Layne was able to shoot past goalkeeper Leron Whittaker in the 43rd minute.
Blueberry Hill started well in the second half and were rewarded four minutes in with the equalizer, compliments of a defensive error which was a direct result of constant pressure on the Milerock defence.
But Milerock like true champions weathered the storm and regained control of the game, banging in the decisive goal, when Omally Reid finished from another cross in the 58th minute.
Earlier, in the third place match, Bakewell Topp XX were victors over Eagles United by a similar margin.
Ron Fiedtkou striking in the 29th and Francis Primo in the 45th minute were the players on target for the Bakewell boys, Clive Nobreiga netted Eagles consolation goal in the 47th minute.
Milerock walked away with $300,000 for the win, Blueberry Hill United got $200,000 and Topp XX received $100,000 and Eagles United $50,000 as the respective 3rd and 4th place finishers. The presentation of prizes is scheduled for this week.
