An early evening fire on Friday destroyed a house at Shield’s Town, West Bank Berbice leaving a family of four homeless.
Reports are that the home of Elfreeda Coblall, a businesswoman, was destroyed some time around 18:30 hours. This newspaper was told that the woman had left the home around 16:00 hours for the family’s business place.
However, the woman was later informed by a neighbour that her home was on fire. The fire services at Blairmont and New Amsterdam were informed and responded.
However their efforts to save the building were in vain. Nothing was saved from the burning building, which was heavily grilled. Investigations are ongoing.
