Uprising and Fruta Conquerors will meet in the final of the 2009 Banks DIH Coca Cola under-15 tournament, a repeat of last year’s title match. The difference on this occasion is that the current Uprising squad had played as Beacon last year when the competition was contested at the under-14 level.
In the semi-finals played at the Tucville ground, Conquerors came from behind to defeat Santos 3-1 in the opening encounter, while Uprising beat Renaissance 2-0, scoring in each half.
Conquerors found themselves trailing against Santos, courtesy of Kevon Leote’s 24th minute strike. Leading Conquerors forward, Pernell Schultz, drew his side back into contention in the 43rd minute before Brandon Joseph took centre stage by netting a double (55th and 62nd minutes).
In the nightcap, Uprising assumed the ascendancy over Renaissance in the 5th minute, through Michael Campbell.
The Gordon Braithwaite-coached unit squandered numerous chances as they dominated their opponents, most of the play concentrated in the trailing side’s half.
Second half substitute Keiron Heywood sealed the deal for Uprising with a well executed effort in the 69th minute.
With a date for the final yet to be decided, both teams will use the opportunity to fine tune their plans for the championship match. Santos and Renaissance will square off for third place.
