Teen’s attempted suicide: Red Cross willing to intervene

The relative with whom a 13-year-old girl has been living are concerned for her well being ever since her mother took the child out of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The relative said that she turned up at the hospital on Thursday afternoon but the child who had ingested poison was not there.

However it is not clear whether the child was discharged. Thus, this has raised more concerns in the mind of the relative. In the meantime the relative said she remains comforted by the fact that a probation officer has been called in to deal with the matter.

“We reported to the matter to the probation office before but nothing really ever came out of it, but I guess now with this they might follow through with a proper investigation,” the relative said.
The relative added that after an article about the child’s plight in this newspaper they were visited by persons from the Guyana Red Cross Society. The woman said the person who visited her has indicated a willingness to get legal custody of the teen and her younger sister who is said to be sharing a common law relationship with a 35-year-old man.

The woman said she has since not been able to contact the teen and is very worried but she intends to report to the Beterverwagting Probation Office as soon as she can.
On Tuesday last the 13-year-old of Strathspey, East Coast Demerara, after complaining of being emotionally and physically abused by her parents who are both alcoholics, attempted suicide.
