Horseracing fans are in for a treat when the Ryan Crawford Turf Club and Sports Facility at Alness village on the Corentyne, in collaboration with Delmur Shipping Company, hosts an action packed event tomorrow at its headquarters.
Banks DIH Limited and Rhythm Stars International have also come on board to make the day’s activities an unforgettable affair. Over 50 horses have been entered and some $2.5M in prize money and trophies are at stake.
Seven events are listed on the programme with four being features. The main attraction will be over 1400m for horses classified ‘C and lower’. Banks DIH Limited is the sponsor of this race with a $300,000 purse for the winner.

The 3-year-old open event which has $200,000 available for the victor is turning out to be a grudge match with Sweet Romance, Coconut Boy, La Bayamosa and Royal Champion.

Completing the line up are Prixie Fire, the first horse to have defeated Coconut Boy, and new arrivals Lady Of My Dreams, Amy Jane and Nigh Crescendo. Tiny 21, a grey mare of the Naljit stable, will be making its debut.
The organisers have wisely put the distance at 1400m which should suit both the sprinters and the distance horses. With all the ingredients in place and the best in the country all entered the event is expected to be a scorcher.
The ‘F and Lower’ category will see a top notch field competing for the $120,000 first prize in a 1300m sprint. Colin Elcock’s Face D Music and The Message battle rivals including Tropical Passion, fresh from a victory in its last outing a week ago, and previous winners Fairy Tale Romance, Matterazi, and Fire Power.
Other action pits ‘G’ class horses in a 1400m showdown with Alphabet back in contention against stablemate World Class along with Finishing Touch and The Gap for the $100,000 on offer.
The ‘I and Lower’, ‘J and lower’ and ‘L and lower’ categories will compete over 1100m with the winners receiving $80,000, $70,000 and $60,000 respectively. Among some of the other top horses expected to blaze the trail are Zebra, Strike D Fire, Indian Boy, Casino Royal, Sean Paul, Cheyenne and Vanessa.
According to chief organizer, Colin Elcock, the facilities have been recently given another facelift and the track is in excellent condition. There will be incentives for the Champion jockey and runner-up, while the champion trainer and stable will also be presented with trophies.
Medical facilities will be on hand as well as musical entertainment from Rhythm Stars International. Race time is 13:00 hrs.
In the meantime the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) is reminding horse owners’ trainers, jockeys and grooms that the deadline for full registration has passed and they must be fully licensed or they will not be allowed to participate in any activity organised by the Authority.
