New Amsterdam Multilateral recently topped five other schools in the Linden ‘Nebbie’ Freso football competition for Secondary Schools in the New Amsterdam/Canje area.
In the final, held at the All Saints Scots Church Ground, N/A Multilateral got the better of Vryman’s Erven Secondary 1-0.
At the presentation ceremony the winning team received a trophy and nine gold medals while the runners-up collected a trophy and nine silver medals.
A number of individual prizes were also presented with N/A Multilateral sweeping all the prizes; the best Goalkeeper award went to Osafa Dos Santos, while Kevin Kirton and Jermaine Lambert were joint top goal scorers with four each. They all received trophies. The other schools that participated were New Amsterdam Technical Institute, Berbice Educational Institute, Berbice High School and Tutorial Academy Secondary School.
The event was organized by the Hearts of Oak Masters Football Club of New Amsterdam in collaboration with the Freso family. Linden ‘Nebbie’ Freso was a member of the Cougars Football Club of Berbice and represented Guyana at various levels in the junior category. He also represented Berbice at all levels with distinction. He died tragically a few years ago.
Since his demise his family, in association with other entities, has been organizing the competition in his memory. This year’s event was coordinated by former national players Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey and Phillip ‘Pine’ Carrington.
