A man whom the court was told is of unsound mind has been charged with the capital offence.
Yesterday 31-year-old Lloyd Greene, of 140 Laing Avenue, Ruimveldt, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Acting Chief Magistrate, Melissa Robertson.
The charge was indictable and Greene was not required to plead.
It is alleged that on April 26, last, Greene murdered 24-year-old Earl France.
The accused was represented by Defense Counsel Troy Deygoo, who told the court that his client is not fit to stand trial since he is deemed mentally unfit.
Greene’s lawyer went on to tell the court that his client is a patient of Dr. Bhiro Harry who is a well known psychiatrist. Greene was nevertheless remanded and is expected to make his next court appearance on June 12.
On April 26, last, Earl France, 24, of Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, died after he sustained a single stab wound to the left side in the region of his heart.
Reports were that France and another man were involved in an argument during which he was stabbed. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).
At the time the deceased was visiting a cousin at Laing Avenue when Cindy Greene, France’s ex-lover and mother of their three children, had taken their youngest child to see him.
According to witnesses, France was cleaning his motor bike at the street corner when his alleged attacker approached. France, the witnesses said, had no time to “fight back”. The relative, they explained, returned wielding two knives, one of which he allegedly used to stab France in the chest.
France was rushed to the GPHC by relatives but was pronounced dead on arrival.
