Last Sunday at the Crabwood Creek Cricket ground a large turnout witnessed three exciting games of softball cricket.
The opening game was the first ever female softball cricket match to be staged at this venue, featuring Crabwood Creek Heroines and the Corriverton Queens.
Corriverton Queens were victorious and walked away with the Prakash Singh Memorial Trophy.
Batting first, the Crabwood Creek Heroines made 84-6 off their allotted 15 overs. Varsha Hartman top scored with 39 and was well supported by Youlana Penue 22 not out. Bowling for the Corriverton Queens, I. Sherry took 2-24 and M. Natasha 2-8 off their allotted 3 overs each.
Corriverton Queens batted and reached the winning target in 12 overs, losing 5 wickets. R. Leslie made 26 and B. Celina 22.
In game two, the Vishnu Super Store squad comprising of Upper Corentyne businessmen, defeated their counterparts from Demerara representing the Floodlights ‘B’ team.
Batting first, Vishnu Super Store made 187-8 off their allotted 20 overs, Derick Dan hitting a majestic 85 and Gibran Khan 50 not out. Pradeep Abdul was the Floodlights ‘B’ best bowler with 3-22 off 4 overs.
Floodlights ‘B’ were then restricted to 156-7 in reply with Derick Ramoutar hitting the top scoring of 58 and Ricky Deonarain 50. Dennis D’Andrade was the most successful bowler for the Upper Corentyne businessmen with 3-30 off 4 overs.
In the third match, Scottsburg United defeated the Floodlights ‘A’ team comfortably to win the Bier Singh Memorial Trophy.
Taking first turn at the crease, Scottsburg United raced to 222 off their allotted 20 overs, losing 9 wickets. R. Joshua top scored with 82, while P. Darshan and Fabian Seeraj hit 36 apiece. Mike Singh bowled beautifully taking 3-21 runs off 4 overs.
Floodlights ‘A’ struggled after losing Mark Harold, Avinash Deokie and Ravi Deokie in the first over bowled by K. Persaud.
They were eventually toppled for 107. Shervin Murray was the main wrecker with 4-17 bowling for Scottsburg United.
The games were used as a fundraiser for the Crabwood Creek Sports Club and all trophies were sponsored by Vishnu Hardyal, Managing Director of Vishnu Super Store in Springlands, along with Ganesh Singh & Brothers Sawmillers and Loggers of Crabwood Creek.
