Owners of Toyota Carina 212 motorcars are becoming anxious as hijackers appear to have turned their attention to the popular model of vehicles.
This follows another hijacking in the city in which two gunmen relieved a 24-year-old man of the vehicle he was driving around 02:45 hours yesterday.
Kaieteur News understands that Kwesi Collins was held at gunpoint and relieved of a white 212 Toyota Carina PLL 7768, owned by Roschelle Reece.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that Collins had borrowed the car and was heading along D’Urban Street.
He slowed at the junction with Cemetery Road to allow a vehicle to pass when two men suddenly opened his doors and boarded the car.
One of the men who had his gun in his hand sat in the front passenger seat, while his accomplice who was also carrying a firearm sat at the back.
The men ordered Collins to drive through Cemetery Road and then to Norton Street.
In the vicinity of the Newburg Funeral Home, one of the men ordered Collins to stop the car to allow him to urinate.
Collins then made a move to escape and in the process held unto the gunman who was outside the car and a scuffle ensued.
However, he was overpowered and the men, pointing their guns at him ordered him to turn and walk away, threatening to shoot him if he disobeyed.
They then drove away with the car.
The matter was reported to the police who are conducting investigations.
Meanwhile, a senior police official told this newspaper that another 212 Toyota car was hijacked on Wednesday night.
However, he could not give details of that incident.
Previously hijackers were targeting another popular Toyota model, the Carina AT 192.
