On Saturday last the Guyana Football Federation held its 2009 Annual General Meeting at the Ocean View International Hotel, Lilliendaal. Present at the meeting, in keeping with constitutional requirements, were two (2) delegates each from ten (10) of its twelve affiliate Associations. Absent were representatives from Rupununi and the Football Coaches Association.
In accordance with the specified Agenda for the meeting, the General Secretary of the GFF, Mr. Noel Adonis presented a report on the activities of the Federation for 2008. This was followed by presentation of the 2008 Audited Financial Statement of Accounts of the GFF, by Mr. Aubrey Henry, outgoing Treasurer, of the Federation. After usual and useful discussion on different aspects of the reports, both were accepted by the meeting as a reflection of activity during the previous year. Official auditors of the GFF, Jack A. Alli Sons and Co. were also represented at the meeting to provide clarification on aspects of the accounts, if necessary.
A major item on the agenda of this meeting was elections for three (3) positions on the Executive Committee – First Vice President, Treasurer and Assistant Secretary (Administration) – the terms of which came to an end in 2009. Voting was not required for the positions of Treasurer and Assistant Secretary as the lone nominees were Mr. Dwayne Lovell and Ms. Vanessa Dickenson (the previous incumbent). They were duly declared Treasurer and
Assistant Secretary (Administration), respectively.
For the position of First Vice President, voting was required for the two nominees, Mr. Carlos Prowell and Mr. Alfred King. After votes were counted it was the former, Carlos Prowell, who prevailed by a vote of 8-6, and was duly declared First Vice President of the GFF for the next term of office.
Presentations of commemorative plaques were made to Mr. Winston Callender, former National Footballer and First Vice President, and Mr. Aubrey Henry, Former Treasurer, for their dedicated service to football. They were also accorded the distinction of remaining as honorary members of the Executive body of the GFF.
Preceding the AGM was a brief opening ceremony in which feature remarks were delivered by Mr. Conrad Plummer, of the National Sports Commission, who spoke on the roles and responsibilities of the media and sports organizations in disseminating information to the public. Mr. Colin Baker of the Guyana Sports Development Foundation, USA, also addressed the gathering on the work of his organization and the avenues of support available to the football community.
