Beauty pageant coordinator remanded

Beauty pageant coordinator, Leon Roberts, was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with the indecent assault of a delegate of the Miss Linden Town Week pageant.
The charge was read to the 34-year-old Roberts by Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan when he appeared in the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court. He is to return to court on May 12.
Kaieteur News understands that an attorney for the defendant will seek a bail application in the High Court today.
It is alleged that a 17-year-old delegate was in Roberts’s office on Sunday night when he grabbed and fondled her.
The young woman said she managed to escape when the man’s paramour knocked on the door, and she later informed an aunt, who contacted the police.
The accused was subsequently taken into police custody when he turned up at the Mackenzie Police Station on Monday.
