Cart off lion’s share of gold medals
Suriname added a further 172 points to their overnight total of 111 to cart off the honours with a massive 283 points when the Tri-Nation, Inter-Guiana Games, swimming championships concluded at the Castellani Pool, Homestretch Avenue, yesterday afternoon.
Guyana added another 87 points to their overnight total of 54 while French Guiana who finished in the cellar, on 52 points at the end of day one, added another 89 to their tally to equal Guyana’s total of 141 points and shared the second podium position.
On a day when Suriname dominated most of the events, Niall Roberts managed to salvage some pride for Guyana winning a gold and a silver in the Boys 19 and under, 100 metre freestyle race and the Boys 19 and under 50 metre butterfly, respectively. He also joined with Sheik Amir, Henk Lowe and Alan Lowe to chalk up a bronze in the Boys 19 and under, 200 metres Freestyle relay.
The women’s relay team also won bronze in the Girls 19 and under 200 metre freestyle through the efforts of Noelle Smith, Athena Gaskin, Steffi DeNobrega and Brittany Van Lange.
The other results read: Girls 19 and Under, 100m Breaststroke: Gold-Evita Leter (Sur), Silver-Shannon Purperhart (Sur), Bronze-Pauline Monthieux (French Guiana).
Boys 19 and under 100m Breaststroke: Gold-Kevin Panoet (Sur), Silver-Given Pinas, Bronze-Kevin John (Fra).
Girls 19 and under 50m Backstroke: Gold-Xaenne Tjoen A Choy (Sur), Silver-Dewi Darmohoetomo (Sur), Bronze-Aureyah Payne (Guy).
Boys 19 and Under 50m Backstroke: Gold- Jair Boerenveen (Sur), Silver- Rambali Sumeet (Sur), Bronze- Roy Tarifffe (Fra).
Girls 19 and Under 200m Freestyle relay: Gold- Suriname through Karlene vander Jagt, Shannon Purperhart, Evita Leter and Chandel Domaso. Siver: French Guiana through Pauline Monthieux, Aurelie Andre, Luciana Nemor and Fabiola Farnabe.
Boys 19 and Under 200m Freestyle relay: Gold-Suriname through Haneef Amatngalim, Jair Boerenveen, Given Pinas and Marcelino Richaards.
Boys 19 and Under 200m freestyle: Gold- Jair Boerenveen (Sur), Silver- Given Pinas (Sur), Henk Lowe (Guy).
Girls 19 and Under 100m freestyle Chandel Domaso (Sur), Karlene van der Jagt (Sur) and Pauline Monthieux (French Guiana).
