Man stabbed to death in Laing Avenue brawl

A 24-year-old man was stabbed to death at around 14:00 hrs yesterday during a brawl with another man in Laing Avenue.

Earl France called “White Boy” or “Whitey” of Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, succumbed from a single stab wound to the chest.

France’s assailant, the brother of Cindy Greene, his children’s mother, was detained shortly after at the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost.

It is reported that the incident occurred close to Greene’s home.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect, who is known as “Ando” launched an attack on France after seeing the victim with one of his three children.

France’s cousin, Michelle, said that he (France) went to Laing Avenue to see her, not the children or their mother.

She added that France was standing in the yard asking her for a piece of cloth to wipe off his motorcycle when France’s reputed wife Cindy Greene called him.

According to her, Greene told him that his children were in a nearby house.

“Cindy call him out of my yard and tell he look yuh children deh in deh.” Michelle said that France told Greene that if his children want to see him they could walk over to where he was standing.

Greene then reportedly pulled him out of the yard and over to where the children were.

According to Michelle, France returned shortly after with his clothes torn and told her that he had a fight with ‘Ando.’

She added that France then went to wipe his bike when his assailant pounced and stabbed him.

“By the time he wiping he bike this girl (Greene) tell me: ‘look Ando coming with two knife. All he (France) could a do was pick up two brick ‘cause Ando was right there and that was it.”

Michelle stated that after stabbing her cousin, the assailant ran away.

“Ando don’t want see ‘White Boy’ with Cindy children, is she cause de problem…If she didn’t pull he, he wouldn’t a had no problem with Ando.”

Greene told Kaieteur News that she was at a friend’s house when the incident occurred. She added that she saw her brother with the two knives and tried to stop him.

But she said that her brother struck her with one of the knives and then punched her in the stomach.

One woman described the assailant as being mentally ill and having “things on his mind.” She also said that the scuffle began after the suspect told France “yuh aint mining yuh children.”

“Deh fight and he (France) beat Ando and Ando seh he coming back for he.”

Late yesterday afternoon eyewitnesses were taken to the East La Penitence Police Outpost to give statements.

France lives with an aunt who was too overcome with grief to comment. France was a father of three.
