DEAR EDITOR,
The dailies are indeed a tremendous source of information and I have to admit that it helps me to a greater extent with my quest in highlighting the fact that Guyana possesses extremely gifted, talented and creative minds.
My continuous echoing is for those individuals to take the challenge in making their presence felt at the forefront along with their signature marks.
Lo and behold, it was very informative reading that was published in the Guyana Times issue of 4.20.2009 of the Carifta 2009 junior silver medalist, Ricardo “Quick Silver” Martin of St. Ignatius Secondary School in the Lethem area.
It was inspiring to learn that this athlete has ambitions of becoming an Olympian and the entire community of Lethem must exercise their support in making this a reality.
“Quick Silver,” your quest in becoming an Olympian depends on many factors and be prepared to undergo very tough routines for the adventure.
You have to maintain your focus and be totally committed to your training regimen because it is mandatory that you meet the qualifying standards required by the International Olympic Committee.
It is my hope that you participate in many local and regional meetings in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics which you have your eyes set on and I believe there will be some rewarding experiences and exposure.
If you can continue to prove yourself to the local Olympic Association and the overall sports fraternity, they might seriously consider and arrange for your training somewhere else where the facilities are more advanced.
A moment of pride and glory for me is for the “Golden Arrowhead” to someday be represented on the track and field podium at an Olympic Games.
It will also be a fist-pumping moment that Guyana has finally lived up to expectations and yes, I am optimistic that it will happen. Over to the business community.
An “APPLE IPOD” each to the gold, silver and bronze winners of the Carifta 2009 Games would definitely represent your token of appreciation. That’s like three rain drops in the Atlantic Ocean for you. Don’t you agree?
