Led by a fine allround performance by Essequibo 20/20 player Oyono Sampson, Sans Souci defeated Good Success by 65 runs in the final of a feature 20/20 cricket competition played last weekend at Good Success Wakenaam.
Sampson belted eight sixes and four fours in his 71 before returning with the ball to capture 4-13 to inspire his team a well deserved victory.
He was well supported by Jaggernauth Manbodh who made 24, as Sans Souci scored 166 all out in 19.2 overs. Off spinner Abdool Salim with 3-19 and Wazeer Mohamed 2-16 were the main wicket takers for Good Success. The home team in reply lost wickets at regular intervals before Wazir Khan (29) and Shoaib Namaz (19) added 40 runs for the last wicket partnership as their team managed 101 in 15 overs.
Roopnarine Persaud (2-20) and Gurnauth Khemraj (2-24) supported Sampson in the bowling department.
Sans Souci collected the winning prize of $20,000.
In other matches played, Good Success got the better of Sans Souci Jaguars by 63 runs and Sans Souci overcame Maria’s Pleasure by 3 wickets. The competition was sponsored by the four competing teams.
