Systems are said to be in place, while over 50 racehorses have been entered for the Grand one day horserace meeting fixed for tomorrow at the Anjue and Hamlet Park’s race track at Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.
Seven races are carded for the day’s programme with some $2.5Million in prizes money up for grabs.
Several top notch races are listed for the day with the C & Lower event with a first prize of $300,000 over a distance of 1600m being the top billing. This event is sponsored by Banks DIH and a number of the country’s top horses have taken entry, among those entered so far are the American bred Annie’s Playmate, Irish Gel, Finally Jade and Sweet Carmel matching strides with the Guyana Contingent led by Sequins, Jumbo Joy, The Gap, Laura lee In Flight, Fire Power and World Class. The event promises to be a scorcher.
Another feature event on the day’s card is the three year old open and will see horses going at each other for the first prize of $220,000. This event will see the likes of Coconut Boy, Pleasure Star, Over D Map and Prixie Fire competing.
The F and lower 1200m sprint is another top of the line race on the days programme and with some $150, 000 available for the winner, another exciting contest is expected as a full gate will see Fire Power, Alphabet, Tropical Passion, Fairy Tale, Mattarazzi, Pinch D Cash, Mystic, and One of a Kind.
The ‘I’ class open 1200m will also spice up the day’s proceedings with the favourites being Finishing Touch, Vanessa, Choice Return and Cheyenne.
The J class unclassified 1200m will see the likes of Channel Boy, Red Bull and Wonder Lite competing. There are two other races for L class unclassified horses and the Three year old non winners event.
Reports out of Mahaicony are that the track is in the pink of condition and fast times are expected to be recorded.
The facilities have recently been improved tremendously bringing it on par with the others in the country.
Horse owners are reminded to get their horses properly registered with the Guyana Horse Racing Authority, as those horses not properly entered will not be allowed to participate in the days proceedings. Race time is 13:00 hrs.
