DEAR EDITOR,
Noise nuisance seems to be the order of the day in some areas. In Enterprise, on the East Coast of Demerara, residents know no peace and quiet, all day there is the sound of a ransome working and also a bobcat, as one individual is misusing his lot (which according to his title is stated for a residence) as an industrial site.
The day begins from between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. when the truck delivers sand. At about 6:00 a.m. the labourers start spading the sand and then commence the work of the ransome. This is the daily routine, except for some Sundays.
I have been at home two days and could hardly enjoy any peace and quiet. I am a tax payer who pays my fair share of taxes and expect the authorities to do their work, so that we can sit and relax in the comfort of our home and yard. Many times, to escape this awful noise, I have to leave my home.
It’s unbelievable that the authorities (both NDC and police) who frequent the area regularly never seem to take notice or action.
If they were faced with such a situation or the man who is responsible for our discomfort was living where I am, I wonder what they/he would have done?
Building blocks doesn’t bother me, it’s the noise that emanates from doing so. I can’t enjoy watching television, unless I increase the volume. I can’t enjoy a conversation on the telephone unless both parties scream at each other and I can’t take a nap during the day. Someone please tell me if this is fair.
Had I known that I was living in an industrial site, I would have prepared my mind to continue living there or moved to a residential area. But when I live in a residential area, where do I move to, to enjoy the comfort, peace and quiet in my home?
For two days (Wednesday and Thursday) I have been unwell and at home and I wonder whether this guy is deliberately making additional noise.
