The Guyana Cricket Board has issued a statement distancing itself from the up coming 20/20 festival being organised by DJ Stress. The statement cited the manner in which the organisation of the event was done in relation to obtaining the body’s sanction.
Here is the full text of the GCB release:
“The attention of the Guyana Cricket Board has been drawn to the staging of a Twenty/20 Festival scheduled for May 1 at the National Stadium at Providence. Normally, that sense of decency and courtesy would demand that the organiser of the Festival seek the permission of the Board or simply alert the Board of the activity and the planned use of the players.
Instead, this organiser has proceeded to invite players from Clubs affiliated to the Board, listing their names in the public promotion of the event.
The festival promises to be a feature that could stimulate tremendous interest among the cricketing public and further promote the game’s popularity. But, even as the G.C.B. welcomes the initiative, it is concerned about the disorderly approach to the organizing of the game.
In the circumstances, the Guyana Cricket Board cannot and will not give support to the event. In fact, the Board must totally disassociate itself from any effort which so blatantly disregards and disrespects the need for an orderly approach to the organization of Guyana’s cricket.”
