Rollers Volleyball Club of New Amsterdam in collaboration with the Grant family will tomorrow stage the fourth Annual Cleon Grant Inter Club Memorial Volleyball competition at the GTM court, at Lad Lane and Strand New Amsterdam.
Some 10 teams are listed to participate in the one day competition which gets on the way at 09:30 hrs.
The teams listed to participate are defending champions, Rollers of New Amsterdam, Vikings of Blairmont, Port Mourant, Harmony, Letter Kenny, Whim, Albion, Harmony and Port Mourant Training School which is expected to field two teams and Berbice High School.
There will be a number of trophies and other incentives up for grabs including those for the top three teams, while individual outstanding prizes will be available for the MVP, Best Server, Best Attacker, Best Blocker, Best Setter, and Best Receiver respectively.
A number of the country’s former top players are expected to roll back the year’s. Stalwarts such as former captains Clifton Phillips, and Levi Nedd and overseas based Charles Henry along with the likes of Benny Sukra, David Bansi and Gregory and Tony Rambarran are expected to rub shoulders with present stars in Sean Glasgow, Shawn Bess and Shawn Sutherland.
Grant was a one time player of the Rollers Volleyball club. He was also Secretary of the Berbice Volleyball Association and also served on the executive of the GVF. Ironically Rollers Volleyball club has won the tournament every time it was contested.
