The Alliance For Change by way of an advertisement in the Trinidad Express attempted to embarrass the Government of Guyana and failed.
This is according to Head of State, Bharrat Jagdeo, in an interview, yesterday.
He said that the regional leaders don’t pay attention to those issues. “But it just shows the dishonesty…they would not know even if it was brought to their attention the steps that I took to accommodate them, (something that) does not happen in many countries in the world.”
The Head of State also pointed to the fact that newspaper advertisements were very costly and questioned where the party got the money from. The advertisement was published in the April 18 issue of the Trinidad Express, and cost between $3 million and $5 million.
Jagdeo recalled that the AFC spent more money on their campaign than the People’s Progressive Party and the People’s National Congress Reform.
“They are spending a lot of money…Can you imagine how much it cost for these ads to run in Trinidad and Tobago…It is very expensive.”
The President also pointed out that the party has a lot of money and he has inquired about the source of that money.
“They like to accuse people of having links to drug dealers…They are yet to speak on the questionable sources of their financing.”
He added also that the AFC is now ashamed of its link to political consultant, Dick Morris, and has disowned the man who was the party’s Chief Advisor at the last elections.
The President said that the party disowned Morris because of his right wing stance. “He (Morris) hates Barrack Obama like there is no tomorrow.”
The President said that the party had a lot of questions to answer and that he was prepared to compare Guyana’s records with any country in the world.
In an invited comment recently the Alliance For Change Chairman Khemraj Ramjattan said that the party was using a tactic learnt from the late President Cheddi Jagan in seeking to internationlise the issue of what it deems political oppression.
He said that he was pleased with the outcome given the response and posited that the decision to print the advertisement on that day (opening of the Summit of the Americas) was deliberate given the political presence in Trinidad at the time.
Ramjattan noted that the party wanted to make an impact given that it is being blocked locally.
