“Motor racing is one of those sports that you can never predict what will happen on the day,” reigning Group 2A champion Chet Singh told Kaieteur Sport during a short interview done via telephone Tuesday.
Singh, who has dominated the division for the past three years referred to current Formula 1 champion Briton Lewis Hamilton as a case in point.
“As you would have read, Hamilton, who to my mind is one of the most talented drivers on the circuit, is now struggling this season to string together good performances and that is why making predictions in this sport is very difficult.”
Getting back to the preparatory phase, Singh, who drives a Honda Civic disclosed that the team hasn’t done much work on the machine since the last Meeting in November, but was optimistic that they will be ready for the upcoming assignment on May 3.
The champ said that he believes the car will be competitive, but fell short of making any predictions, preferring to say that he will just go out on the track and do his best which over the past three seasons has been spot on, earning him best driver awards.
Singh will be coming into the Meeting as the hunted, registering two first places and a second at the last event in November.
Meanwhile, Group 4 competitor Irfaan Kalamadeen in comments with this newspaper revealed that his turbo-charged RX 7 has undergone some changes which should bolster his chances of doing well.
“We’ve taken off around 150 lbs and this new development should make the handling of the car much easier and provide us with more speed,” Kalamadeen offered.
He, however, cautioned that many other drivers have done likewise which will make the races very competitive.
Having returned dismal results during last year, the young speedster says he is eager to garner the kind of results to justify his talent.
“I should be able to perform better this time, and I believe that the Meeting will be a good one with close and exciting finishes.”
