Police are probing the death of a one-year-old girl, who allegedly drowned in an area known as Fowl Mouth, in the Essequibo River on Monday, after wandering out of her parents’ home.
Police reports said that Britney Pollard’s father, a boat captain, went out at around 03:30 hrs on Monday, leaving the child with her mother.
He returned around 05:00 hrs to discover that the child was missing. A search was launched and Britney Pollard’s body was eventually found in the Essequibo River. Kaieteur News understands that the home has a step situated over the river and it is believed that the child fell overboard after wandering outside.
The child’s remains are at the Bartica Hospital and an autopsy is likely to be preformed today.
