Leading local and Caribbean marksman Ransford Goodluck returned to winning form after being dethroned as National Fullbore champion by Mahendra Persaud to take the top spot at last Sunday’s Canada Cup Postal competition sponsored by the Trinidad and Tobago Rifle Association and contested at the Timehri Rifle Ranges, Yarrowkabra, Linden Soesdyke Highway.
Competition on a day which saw the wind changing at a rapid pace at times saw the shooters competing at the 300, 500 and 600 yards ranges with Goodluck tallying 154 points with 15 V Bulls. Goodluck, Persaud and Lt. Col. Terrance Stewart recorded similar scores at the 600 yards range of 71 points and 5 V’s.
The champion won at 500 with 49 points and 4’s while Senior Counsel Richard Fields, Claude Duguid and Insp. Dane Blair had similar scores of 35 points and 5 V’s each at the 300 range.
Coaches for the day were Goodluck, Persaud, Blair and Dylan Fields.
Meanwhile, the next Postal shoot on Sunday will be for the West India Cup sponsored by the Jamaica Rifle Association over 300, 500 and 600 yards with two (2) sighters and 10 shots to count featuring 8 shooters.
The Crown Mining Postal shoot with 2 sighters and 7 to count over the same distances will be the final team training match featuring a 6 man team to be selected before the start.
The Guyana team for the Caribbean Championships will wing out on Sunday May 10 for the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago where they will take on the rest of the Caribbean as the Long and Short Range champions.
