Dear Editor,
After reading the article of the Thursday April 9th 2009 edition of the Kaieteur News, I began to worry about the other assets of the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) that may have been missing over the years.
I began to worry since they were purchased via our union dues.
I appeal to the Commissioner of Police to ensure that his ranks in Georgetown carry out a thorough investigation and let charges be laid upon functioning Officers who may be demolishing our union’s assets for personal gains.
Fellow members of the GTU, I appeal to you to ask questions through your Branches on the following:
(i) Where is the small washing machine that was bought to wash the curtains?
(ii) Where are the mattresses for the bunks in the dormitory?
(iii) Why is the union’s executive vehicle used to transport baby chicks and chicken feed?
(iv) Who is renting the union’s Canteen?
(v) Why only certain executive officers are benefiting from large sums of our money for transportation and subsistence on a daily basis?
(vi) What about the computers that, were in the computer lab?
In closing I would like all teachers across Guyana not to march under the banner of the GTU come 1ST May, unless a thorough investigation is conducted by the Guyana Police Force.
Long-Serving GTU Member
