Dear Editor,
I am always satisfied whenever projects and ventures are opened to all regions and I am very confident that Guyana has some hidden intelligently smart and creative people who don’t always get the opportunity to showcase those talents.
The organisers of the Annual Easter Hat competition venture could increase their creative planning skills where this event can become a much more regional venture. The venue will definitely stay in the city.
The focus point is to have the opportunity in putting creative minds to work especially the academics from the remote areas, which are often left out for many reason/s.
If it is a case that it will be too expensive to host participants from the far out places, allow the designs to come in and selected persons from the city could have them displayed on the regions’ behalf.
Of course, I don’t expect extravagant prizes, but some decent donations can be forthcoming from the business community. I consider such venture as inexpensive and giving the far out peoples some additional hope that they will always be included as much as possible. The Culture Ministry’s input will definitely be needed here.
Another very important event is the introduction of the “Scrabble Competition” for the far out regional academics. This one might be a little more high tech to organise, but it’s worth a shot by organisers.
I am merely setting the tone in terms of ideas and if organisers envision this becoming a much bigger educational event, it’s their task for the planning, marketing aspect and seeking sponsorships.
This will definitely need the support of the Education Ministry.
T. P.
