Defending champions Wakenaam defeated Bartica by 156 runs as the Goodwood U-19 50 overs cricket competition continued recently in Zone A and B in Essequibo.
In Zone B at the Wakenaam Community Centre ground in Good Success, Wakenaam batted first and piled up 200-8 off their allotted 40 overs.
Ceon Venture topscored with 33. He was well supported by Don Murray 31, Bernard Lewis 24 and Derwin Daniels 24.
The visitors in reply were routed for 46 in 19.1 overs. Lewis returned with the ball to take 3-12 while left arm pacer Younganand Balgobin bagged 3-16 and 14 year old spinner Moin Khan 2-11.
In another Zone B game, host Leguan got the better of Bartica by 8 wickets.
Bartica took first turn at the crease and made 72 all out in 22.2 overs.
Dwayne Singh was the only batsman that offered any resistance with 25 as Devon Rabindra captured 5-20 for Leguan who hit off the required runs in 16 overs ending on 75-2. Wazeer Alli made 21 while Shaun Garraway took 2-18 in a losing cause for Bartica.
In another Zone B matches played, East Bank Essequibo defeated Bartica by 2 wkts and Leguan overcame Wakenaam by 6 wkts.
And in Zone A, South and North Essequibo recorded victories over Pomeroon by 7 wickets and by 97 runs respectively.
Scores: Bartica 163 all out in 32 overs (Dwayne Singh 64, Shawn Garraway 51, Mahindra Singh 3-5) lost to E.B.E 164-8 in 23 overs (K. Boodie 62, Quacy Ceasar 20, Shaun Garraway 3-50, D. Singh 3-31).
Wakenaam 69 all out in 20 overs lost to Leguan 70-4 in 22 overs.
Zone A: Pomeroon 117 all out in 31 overs (Sanjeev Ramdeen 25, Vishnu Bispat 18, Anthony Adams 2-10, Keron Mc Lennon 2-18, Floyd Henry 2-16) lost to South E’bo 118 – 3 in 21 overs (Floyd Henry 42 n.o, K. Mc Lennon 29).
North 154 all out in 39. 4 overs, the game was reduced to 40 overs due to rain. (Navin Singh 33, Suresh Persaud 20, Nimron Bahadur 20, Sanjeev Ramdeen 3-29, Carl Williams 4-16) beat Pomeroon 57 in 20.2 overs (Suresh Persaud 6-10).
Zone A winner North Essequibo will play the winner of Zone B in the final.
