North Essequibo won the Goodwood Racing Service U-19 50 overs cricket competition by defeating Leguan in the final by 84 runs at the Anna Regina Community Centre ground on the Essequibo Coast.
In a match which was reduced to 40 overs due to rain, North won the toss and batted in front of a fair size crowd and made 161 all out in 36 overs. Javier McDonald (33), Rajeev Manichand (31) Navin Singh (25) and Greyson Paul (25) were their principal scorers as Tariq Beepat captured 4-20 and Azeez Khan 2-25 for the visitors. Leguan in reply threatened briefly before they were all out for 77 in 33.2 overs. Alvin McKoy topscored with 15 while E. Khan made 13.
Man-of-the-match Christopher Butcher bagged 4-13 while Suresh Persaud took 2-13 and Unindra Balgobin 2-11 for the winners.
North collected the winning trophy and Leguan the runner’s up prize.
Sheik Ahmad, president of the Essequibo Cricket Board congratulated the winners and thanked the sponsor for coming on board.
