Good Success Sports Club of Wakenaam defeated Alvin Kallicharran foundation XI of England by 3 wickets in a feature 30 overs cricket match played recently at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground in Good Success.
The Foundation XI took first strike and lost an early wicket before they had scored in the first over but guest player Satnarine Sahadeo (25) and Pooran Singh (20) added 59 for the second wicket partnership before they were both run out as their team slipped to 67-3.
Morris Sukul (19) and Ceon Venture (18) were the next best scorers as their team ended on 150-7 off their allotted overs.
Chandreka Ragnauth, Imran Khan, Nazeer Mohamed, Youganand Balgobin and Abdool Salim took one wicket each for Good Success.
The host began their reply in stunning fashion with Abdool Salim, who made 37 off 24 balls and Chandreka Ragnauth, who took 33 balls for his 55 as the pair posted an entertaining opening stand of 72 before they were both removed by N. Singh at 72 and 84.
Good Success then lost a few more wickets before they won the game in the 25th over ending on 156-7. Moin Khan took 3-13 while N. Singh ended with 2-13.
Good Success received the winning trophy while their players were presented with a medal each. Prizes were also given to the umpires and scorers.
At the presentation ceremony, captain of the foundation team Mr. Faiyaz Alli made a monetary contribution and a quantity of cricket gear to the home team on behalf of the visitors. He also promised to donate a bowling machine to the Essequibo Cricket Board. Mr. Alli thanked the host for their hospitality and the crowd for coming out.
Mustak Mohamed, captain of the Good Success team and Sheik Ahmad the president of the Wakenaam Cricket Committee and Essequibo Cricket Board, thanked the foundation for their support and said it will go a far way in their development.
The foundation team is on their annual visit to Guyana and will play a number of other matches across the country before they depart.
