Leonora Masjid defeated Cornelia Ida / Hague Masjid to take top honours in the West Coast Zone of the West Indian Sports Complex Sponsored countrywide inter – Jamaat Softball Cricket Competition which was played last Sunday and Monday at the Leonora Masjid Ground.
In the final, Leonora Masjid won the toss and inserted Cornelia Ida/Hague Masjid who posted 112 -7 in their 10 overs. Naeem Khalil top scored with 38 which included 5 sixes and two fours off 13 balls and added 57 with Khalid Mohamed who made 27 before they were removed within the space of four balls with the score on 98 in the sixth over before the innings went into decline.
When Leonora Masjid batted they capitalized on loose fielding and scored at over 10 runs per over.
Top scorer and Man-of-the-match Amir Khan, who scored 59 off 25 balls which included some 7 sixes and one four, fell in the 7th over. Imaam Khan (18) and Ryan Rahoman (19) continued the run feast as Leonora Masjid galloped to victory in the 8th over.
Leonora Masjid will now represent the West Coast Zone in the overall finals.
Managing Director of West Indian Sports Complex in brief remarks expressed his company’s desire to see more youths involved in these competitions which will foster stronger brotherhood and unity among Muslims at the Jamaat level.
The Guyana Softball League thanked the Leonora Jamaat for making their ground available and all those who contributed to the success of the 10-team competition.
Meanwhile, the Berbice zone will be played at the Scott School Ground New Amsterdam; East Bank Zone at the Providence Ground and East Coast Zone at the Ogle Community Centre ground and matches will be played on the Sunday April 19.
