Former National cricket Captain Travis Dowlin yesterday issued a press statement urging the Guyana Cricket Board to convene an immediate inquiry into reports against him made by the Demerara and Berbice Cricket Boards.
The 32-year-old, who has represented Guyana at the first-class level since 1997, was dropped from the Guyana team for their final round WICB Regional four-day game against Barbados which ended on last Tuesday and says he has sought professional advice and intends to protect and defend his name against the machinations of some members of the Demerara and Berbice Cricket Boards.
The Demerara Cricket Club batsman said he was unaware that any complaint has been made by any member of any team which he has ever represented and feels the letter from the Demerara and Berbice Cricket Boards are part of a sinister and orchestrated plan by certain members of the respective boards to malign his good name and standing, in the hope that their preferred candidates are considered for selection.
Following is the full text of Dowlin’s press statement:
‘A letter dated March 28th 2009 from the Demerara and Berbice cricket Boards addressed to the Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board, published in the Stabroek News of April 8th 2009 and referred to in an article dated Wednesday April 15th 2009 in the Kaieteur News, contains grave, malicious and false allegations against me. I deny without reservation all the allegations and innuendos contained in the letter.
I have and will always consider it an honour of the highest regard to be selected to represent my country and have consistently done so without fear, prejudice or favour. I have not to date, despite my several requests, been provided with any particulars of the alleged reports referred to by the Demerara and Berbice Cricket Boards.
I am unaware that any complaint has been made by any member of any team which I have ever represented.
The letter from the Demerara and Berbice Cricket Boards are part of a sinister and orchestrated plan by certain members of the respective boards to malign my good name and standing, in the hope that their preferred candidates are considered for selection.
I welcome and urge the Guyana Cricket Board to convene an immediate inquiry into the alleged reports of Demerara and Berbice Cricket Boards.
I have afforded the above Boards more than adequate time since the issuance of their letter to the Guyana Cricket Board, to provide the details of the alleged reports referred to in their letter.
They have consistently failed to provide any information on the outrageous allegations referred to in their letter.
I have sought professional advice and intend to protect and defend my name against the machinations of some members of the aforementioned Boards’.
