Winners Connection, are the 2009 Netrockers FC / Linden Town week football champs following a come from behind 2-1 win over host club Netrockers in the final played on Sunday last at the Bayrock Community Centre ground, Wismar Linden.
Netrockers jumped into the lead 15 minutes into the game when the dangerous left winger Deshawn Joseph’s shot rocked the nets the end result of a good build up. But before the host club could have really settled down to enjoy the lead, Winners Connection drew level.
Captain Ryan ‘Zaggy’ Crandon led from the front for his team and his shot was bang on target 3 minutes after they found themselves trailing.
Both teams tried their best to gain the lead as the time ticked away but it was Winners who succeeded with 10 minutes to go to full time.
Allan Garette’s header from a free kick ripped the nets apart as Winners not only took the lead but also the inaugural championship. Garette’ goal described as the best of the tournament earned him the Cozabs Auto Spares Best Goal Scored prize.
Eagles United took the third place trophy without a fuss as their intended opponents, Flamingo, failed to put in an appearance.
Winners Connection walked away with most of the individual prizes, Ryan Crandon won the MVP prize of one Mountain Bicycle compliments of Bai Shan Lin.
Owen Williams took the Cozabs Auto Spares highest goal scorer award with Dellon Douglas taking the B. Harry most discipline player prize.
Lenrick Casting of Netrockers was voted the most improved player and received the Leonard Johnson award, while teammates Alex Hoyte (Sebra Woods trophy) and Fitzroy Chin (Charles Pollard trophy) were named the best goalkeeper and best defender, respectively.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies were sponsored by BOSAI Minerals Group.
