The Joint Services have dispatched a team to comb the Chi-Chi area for a pilot who disappeared five days after he left his mining camp to return to the city.
Bernard Singh, who runs a mining operation at Chi-Chi, was scheduled to fly back to the Ogle Airport on Good Friday but has not been seen although his private aircraft was still parked on the airstrip in the area.
Employees of his mining operation, who combed the area upon learning that he had not returned home and his aircraft was still on the runway, later contacted the police.
Commissioner of Police Henry Greene confirmed that the pilot left the city on April 7, last for his mining camp and was to return on Good Friday.
He said that the man parked his aircraft and had to walk through a trail to get to his mining camp.
He did reach the camp and was on his way back out a few days later when he disappeared.
“The plane is parked there but he has not been seen since,” the Commissioner told this newspaper.
There are no signs that the pilot has been killed.
Greene said that a team of investigators was prepared to leave for the area yesterday but will be dispatched today to join in the search.
The Chi-Chi area is described as a mountainous area with rough terrain to traverse. It is located near Imbamadai, Mazaruni, another popular mining area.
