Dear Editor,
In order to fight our economic, social, cultural problems and promote and encourage respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, we must strive towards National Unity.
National Unity is a key factor in achieving national development. National unity encompasses a Government, which is democratic, a civil society which strives to be free of oppression, atrocity, discrimination, violence, rule of law, social justice, protection of human rights, dignity and ensuring the fundamental rights and freedom of the people.
National unity will aid to strengthen the political, social and economic and defence institutions of this country. Guyanese should ensure that we support national unity to achieve a prosperous life and a sound environment.
The promotion of racial division by troublemakers must stop, since it is not healthy for a growing nation like Guyana.
It should be noted that everyone has the right to freely decide and determine his or her political status within a country, but we must also be careful of how we exercise that right; since ‘irresponsible exercising’ can be consequential for our society.
We may have differences, but we must practice the values of compromise, respect, equality, and at the same time recognise our country’s diversity.
Should we continue along the path of unrighteousness, we will all surely suffer because of our own actions; prices will go up, corruption will increase, the population will decrease, and development will experience retardation.
Government continues to commit itself to make constant improvements for the well being of the entire population.
Guyana is a country with so much potential; it just needs the cooperation and patriotism from its people.
This country is a country for all, and we must work towards this.
