Horseracing action goes to Mahaicony on the East Coast Demerara on Sunday April 26 when the Anjue and Hamlet Park’s racetrack, the only one in Demerara, stages a grand one day horserace Meet at their track at Mahaicony Branch Road.
Seven races are listed with close to $3M in prizes money up for grabs. Entries are filling up at a fast rate and word from the organisers is that over 40 horses have already entered. Several top class races will be headlined by the B & Lower event which has a first prize of $300,000 over a distance of 1600m.
Another feature event is the three year old open and will see horses going after the first prize in excess of $200,000.
The F and lower 1200m sprint is another lead event with over $200,000 available for the winner. The I class Open 1600m gallop is another key race with $140,000 on offer.
Other races for the day are for I Class category three horses over 1200m, the J class unclassified 1200m event and L class unclassified horses.
Reports out of Mahaicony are that a lot of improvement has being done to the facilities, bringing it on par with the others in the country.
The track, which is a grass track, the only one in the country, has been upgraded recently and a lot of fast times are expected.
Persons still interested in having their horses participate in the days proceedings are asked to get in touch with Mr. Amernauth Kirtipaul on telephone numbers 623-1009 or 624-9104 or at the Arjune and Hamlet racetrack at Mahaicony Branch Road. Entries close on Saturday April 18.
Horse owners are also reminded to get their horses properly registered with the Guyana Horse Racing Authority, as horses not properly entered will not be allowed to participate in the days proceedings. Race time is 13:00hrs.
