The two children who perished after a Hadfield Street shack caught fire succumbed from smoke inhalation, an autopsy conducted yesterday revealed.
Police also stated that the children’s mother, Anita Ramdeo, who had been in custody since Saturday, has been released.
It is still unclear whether she will be charged.
Ramdeo has reportedly told investigators that she left three-year-old Ewan Monroe and one-year-old Isaiah Monroe in the home with a lighted flambeau, while she went to a shop on Bent Street.
Her reputed husband, Keyron Monroe, also stated that Ramdeo often left the toddlers at home unsupervised.
Reports indicate that the fire started after a flambeau ignited flammable materials in the home, described by some observers as a shack.
