Govt.’s support to Mahaicony welcomed

Dear Editor,
I write to compliment the President and his team for their visit to the Mahaicony River. I think this visit was long overdue. This area is known for its high production of rice and cattle and as such it was very important that the Head of State take time to visit and speak to farmers directly.

The floods have significantly affected the lives of the residents in this creek and again I must thank the government for the assistance that was given to the people both domestic and agriculturally. The Ministry of Agriculture did a very good job, and I must say organised, at distributing the veterinary supplies, seeds, fertilizer and chemicals. This was most welcomed by the people here in Mahaicony.

On his visit, the President announced at his meeting that his government through the Ministry of Public Works will spend some $50 million in repairing the Mahaicony Branch Road. This will boost agriculture development in the area since it will improve accessibility, which will lead to much more growth and development.

I must also commend the Ministry of Agriculture for their effectiveness in carrying out the drainage and irrigation works immediately after the flood waters had receded. This, as promised by the Minister, shows a sense of commitment by the Ministry. I do hope that the people of the Mahaicony Creek make maximum use of these facilities and assistance provided to them since it will enhance our community and we can be able to produce more.
I also hope that the Regional Administration implement these activities with great urgency since it is seriously needed by the community.
