The Female Inter-County tournament, scheduled to commence yesterday at the Police ground with Demerara facing Essequibo, was washed out and the three-team tournament is now set to begin tomorrow at Eve Leary.
The Gafoor’s Cup national 20/20 semi-final between Central Essequibo and Lusignan was also washed out yesterday and has been re-fixed for tomorrow at Bourda.
Meanwhile, the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Inter-Association 50-overs under-19 cricket final between Georgetown and West Demerara set for today has also been called off due to the inclement weather.
A DCB official informed that a new date will be announced for the match which would have given the DCB selectors a final look at the players before they selected the county’s team for the GTM three-day competition which is scheduled to commence on Saturday in Anna Regina with Demerara facing Essequibo in the opening round.
A DCB executive explained that funding was the major reason why a one-day competition had to be used to select the Demerara three-day team which will face-off with Berbice in the final round game at the Providence Stadium after Berbice play Essequibo from next Wednesday in Essequibo.
A DCB member added that while the Inter-Association was being used to pick the Demerara team to travel to Essequibo, performances in local two-innings cricket would also be taken into account since players usually bat and bowl differently in limited overs and two innings cricket.
