“Your worship I have no regrets about doing what I did to my father,” were the words of 23-year-old Kevin Blair after he pleaded not guilty to wounding his father Rudolph Peters with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm on April 9, last.
Blair was appearing before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, yesterday.
His father, Rudolph Peters, 52, is also accused of wounding his son on April 13; he also pleaded not guilty. He is being represented by attorney-at-law Mortimer Coddett.
According to the lawyer, Peters is horrified that his son tried to kill him. Coddett said that the entire incident stemmed from his client trying to obtain a bank loan.
He said that Peters took his transport for his house to the bank, only to be told that since his children’s name appeared on the transport he needed to get an affidavit of support.
The lawyer further stated that Blair refused to sign the document, which prompted the stabbing.
Coddett said that Peters was stabbed in the vicinity of his heart. He added that he was again attacked by his son while he was seeking medical attention at the hospital. However, the son, Kevin Blair, had a totally different account of what happened. He told the magistrate that his father was the one who attacked and stabbed him and he was only acting in self defence.
Bail was denied for the son, while the father was granted $75,000 bail. The matter is expected to be back in court on April 23.
