Players hit maiden tons at national level
The President, Executive and members of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) has offered congratulations to Royston Crandon and Shermaine Campbell on scoring centuries for the national senior male team and female under-19 teams, respectively.
Crandon scored his maiden first class century against Barbados in the WICB Regional final round match at the Providence National Stadium, a brilliant unbeaten 136 while Campbell, playing for the national female under-19 team registered a magnificent 134 not out against St. Lucia in the WICB regional tournament.
Following is the full text of the press release; “Our club is proud of these two outstanding members and we salute them on their personal milestones.
Royston Crandon’s achievement is special to us for two reasons. He is the first RHTY&SC member to score a first class century and secondly, it comes after being ignored by the national selectors for four matches despite being one of Guyana’s leading run scorers.
His century is a lesson to the selectors that they must select a national team based on performance and not based on club membership or personal friendship.
Campbell’s century, the first by a Guyanese female cricketer is another proud moment in the history of the club. She also scored a brilliant 74 in the final of the WICB tournament against Jamaica.
Shermaine’s achievement can be attributed to her hard work ethic, discipline and dedication backed up by the committed financial investment into our female team by Metro Office Equipment and Computer Supplies.
Our female cricketers are playing cricket on a regular basis among male cricket teams and this has allowed their talent to develop at a very encouraging pace. Royston’s century is especially dedicated to Mr. David Burgess who would be leaving Guyana shortly to return to his homeland while Campbell’s hundred is dedicated to CEO Mr. Taijnauth Jadunauth and management of Metro.
The club would also like to extend congratulations to Assad Fudadin (close to 400 runs), Esaun Crandon (19 wickets) and Delbert Hicks for making his regional debut against Barbados at the Providence National Stadium in the final round match.
We are proud of all of these players and would like urge them to continue to be role models to all youths in Guyana and to be positive in everything they do.”
