Two passengers made off with a taxi at around 23:45 hrs on Monday after holding the driver at gunpoint near Mandela Avenue.
Taxi driver, Troy Lewis, of Duncan Street, Campbellville, had picked up the men in at Regent Street and was taking them to Norton Street when the passengers attacked him.
The men then drove away with his car.
The vehicle was later found intact in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens, Mandela Avenue.
